"From this hour I ordain myself loos'd of limits and imaginary lines, going where I list, my own master total and absolute, Listening to others, considering well what they say, Pausing, searching, receiving, contemplating, Gently, but with undeniable will, divesting myself of the holds that would hold me."

Walt Whitman (1819-92)

"When I look back now over my life and call to mind what I might have had simply for taking and did not take, my heart is like to break."

Akhenaton (d. c.1354 BC)

Roots and Rules

char-ac-ter
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English caracter, from Middle French caractère, from Latin character mark, distinctive quality, from Greek charaktEr, from charassein to scratch, engrave; perhaps akin to Lithuanian zerti to scratch
1 : one of the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual
2 : the complex of mental and ethical traits marking and often individualizing a person, group, or nation
3 : REPUTATION
4 : what matters

I believe.

I believe in nobleness, and that the highest calling is to sacrifice oneself to and for others.

I believe in ideals that can never be reached yet should always be strived for.

I believe in good, and purity, and chivalry.

I believe in God, and forgiveness, and in living a life that is only the prelude to the real symphony.

I believe in love, that everyone has that one special person, and that cats and dogs can love us in the same way that God wants us to love Him.

I believe in blue skies in June, thunderstorms in August, chilly days in November and snow in January.

I believe that friends are treasures beyond price.

I believe that we do most of our talking through our eyes. And I believe that we can tell our character by which way our feet are heading.

I believe that actions can in fact show what is in the heart.

I believe that not all things need to be said.

I believe that beauty lies first in the spirit.

I believe that God reaches out and touches each of our lives.

I believe.
I believe in looking reality straight in the eye and denying it.
Garrison Keillor (1942 - )
